Hello Everyone... and thanks for visiting my site.
My name is Ashley Fiolek, I am 18 years old and I sometimes live in St. Augustine Florida. I am a women professional motocross racer with many dreams and aspirations! One of the most interesting things about my life up to this point is how I got here...
I was introduced to motorcycle's by my mom and dad around the age of 2, I would ride on the front of my mom's 4 wheeler or my dad's bike, we would go up to Northern Michigan to my Grandpa Motorcycle's house, we would ride for hours through the woods, I loved every minute of it!
Around 3 years old my mom and dad took me to watch a race, I really liked it and I told my mom and dad I wanted to race! A few weeks later a new Yamaha PW 50 was setting in the kitchen of my house when I got home from my Grandma's house, I was so excited. It was awesome, training wheels and all. I played around with it but actually at that time I guess I was just more interested in riding with my mom and dad so my bike just kind of sat there, besides it was hard to ride with the goofy training wheels on :) Over the next few years we continued to go to my Grandpa Motorcycle's house and ride through the woods almost every weekend, I absolutely loved it!
When I was 7 years old my family and I were on vacation in Florida, we brought our bikes, we even brought mine just in case I wanted to ride it, we went to Croom Forest in Brooksville Florida, I remember telling my dad to take off the training wheels, I wanted to ride. Off went the training wheels and off I went. Of course I rode around in a circle for a few minutes but as usual that is never enough for me :) I told my mom and dad I wanted to follow them through the woods while they rode their bikes, my parents looked pretty nerves but agreed to do it, a few hours later when we got back to the motor home, I knew I fell in love with motorcycles.
Next we went to PAX TRAX in Bunnell Florida, I rode the peewee track for hours but out of the corner of my eye I could see the big track, after a while every lap I would stop and look at my dad and point to the big track, he would smile and say no not yet, like I said... it is never enough for me.
On our way driving home my mom and dad asked if I wanted to race, of course I said yes... so a few weeks later we were on our way to Log Road in Michigan for a Spring Fling race, that was March of 1998. It was raining but I didnt care I just wanted to race! There were 12 of us peewee riders and I got 4th and I got a trophy :) For the rest of that day I just rode around the track and had a blast.
That was the beginning of my racing career. Over the next several years I continued to ride and race, I hit my first big national in 1999 in Florida at the Mini Olympics in Gainesville. In 2000 I went to the GNC at Mosier Valley, it was our first time traveling to a national (Gainesville was in our backyard now since we moved in 1998 to Florida). I remember going there, I was racing a 60, my friend Lindsey was there which was really cool, it helped me to relax. What was also cool was we were parked next to Tyler and Ryan Villopoto which at the time I had no idea who they were but I do remember their parents being really nice and talking to my mom and dad. Actually I can remember my first podium at Lake Whitney in 2004, looking out and seeing Chris (Tyler and Ryans mom) clapping for me, it is cool because she always seem to be there cheering me on!
In 2004 I made the podium at Lake Whitney at the Spring National, it was my first time and I was so excited to get interviewed on the podium, that was the first time people realized I was deaf. Later that year I won Loretta Lynns, I trained so hard for that race, my family took me on the road for 5 weeks to train with the Regal family in Michigan, when I left there I knew I was ready. That same year I won AMA Rider of the Year, what an honor.
Over the next few years I continued to race all the amateur nationals, trying my best and winning as many as I could. In 2008 I joined the Womens Motorcycle Association (WMA) in my first full year as a women professional motocross racer. That year I won 4 of 6 rounds and won the championship in my rookie season, me and my family were so pumped!
In 2009 I signed with Honda Red Bull Racing as the first full women factory rider, whew... what a team and what great bikes, I cant thank them enough.
At this point as I said earlier, I still have a lot of dreams and aspirations so I am going to keep working hard and doing my best to accomplish what I set out too. I am blessed that 11 years I am still riding and racing and doing something I absolutely love.
Thanks for stopping by my site.
